Huge mall is being built to serve New Tampa / Wesley Chapel area

This is exciting news for residents in New Tampa, Wesley Chapel and surrounding areas. The construction of long-awaited shopping mall is ready to begin since the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers gave its final approval the week of May 16. The mall is now expected to open its doors by fall of 2008.

Cypress Creek Town Center will span over 1.3-million-square-foot area and will be one of the largest shopping malls in Florida. It will include major retailers, restaurants, a bookstore, movie theater and specialty shops in an outdoor village-style setting.

So far, the only retail tenant announced has been AMC Theater which plans to build an 18-screen multiplex on the site. But according to spokeswoman for the developer, the mall is at least 60% leased or committed.

Cypress Creek Town Center is one of the three malls planned for the area along with The Grove at Wesley Chapel and Wiregrass (part of the Wiregrass Ranch subdivision). Together, the three malls will provide over 5.4 million square feet of retail space within a 5-mile radius. Read more
